A Message from the Director

Modern living brings with it its own challenges. I've been fortunate to have the company of sincere and hardworking brothers and sisters over the last 20 years in the field of Muslim community work. More recently, the team of Sunnah Works Inc. has been blessed by Allah to produce projects of real benefit to the Muslim and the wider Australian community.

Now, as the next step, we are embarking on this new rewarding project — M.E.C.A — to meet the modern challenges of our growing Brisbane community. We pray Allah grants success to raise the A$2.5 million required to build the MECA Masjid for the spiritual and educational excellence of our community in Australia.

The Vision

A Masjid in Its Truest Sense

A place of worship (ʿibādah) and an educational institution that stimulates and nurtures faith (īmān), beneficial knowledge, and its sincere implementation — producing model citizens. The MECA Masjid will be built in the southern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, and will cater for:

A Masjid for All

A spacious prayer hall welcoming men, women and especially the youth — our future.

Weekend School

Qur'an ḥifẓ, Arabic and religious classes for children every weekend.

Islamic Institute

Tertiary-level intensive courses taught by local and international scholars (ʿulemāʾ).

AMYN Library

The largest of its kind in Australia — Islamic and general books, audio and visual resources, in English and Arabic.

Tutoring & Excellence

After-school teaching and tutoring for Muslim and non-Muslim students to achieve intellectual excellence.

Literacy & Up-skilling

English literacy, numeracy and up-skilling classes for the disadvantaged.

Youth & Recreation

A youth educational and cultural centre with halal recreational facilities.

Master Plan

Three Stages to Build MECA

The project moves forward in three stages — from securing the land, to raising the structure, to furnishing it for the community.

Stage 01

Purchase the Land

A$1.5M – 2.0M

Suitable sites have been shortlisted on the south side of Brisbane, where most of the Muslim community resides. Your generous donations will help secure one of these properties.

Stage 02

Construct the Masjid

A$1.0M

The MECA Masjid will comprise two floors, each about 1,000 m²:

Ground Floor

  • Youth recreational facilities
  • Large community development hall
  • Kitchen, toilets and washroom facilities
  • Wudu (ablution) areas

First Floor

  • Spacious prayer area
  • Library with a large collection of Islamic and other books
  • State-of-the-art multipurpose lecture and conference facilities
  • Classrooms with operable walls for flexible usage
  • Office and meeting rooms
Stage 03

Furnish & Equip

A$150,000

Carpet, bookshelves, audio/visual equipment, flexible classroom partitions, computers and more — everything that turns a building into a living centre.

Where We Stand

Project Status

Several suitable properties — land, constructed premises, even a church — were ready and available in the past, but were purchased by others before funds could be raised. Now another very suitable place has been found for A$1 million, and this time we want to raise the money first. You can help make this project a reality today.
